World War 2- D-Day

D-Day

June 6, 1944 Allied forces stormed the beaches of France to take back France from Axis control. The overall invasion was a success for the allies for this was the start of pushing back the Axis from western front. The original date for the invasion was June 5 but due to weather the invasion was postponed, the Allies dropped thousands of paratroopers behind enemy line in hope to flank the enemy but  with not knowing the land and airplanes being shot down the whole plan of flanking didn't work. With a resulting of nearly 4,000 Allied troops lost storming the beach. The Allied forces landed 326,000 troops, and more than 50,000 vehicles. The storming of beaches on France was truly a miracle with the Allied forces even able to make it on the beach and then push up hill with no protection from German machine gun fire. Hitler made a huge mistake with his most feared tanks the panzers he had called them to sit out in the open ready for the invasion but with the Allied bombing force the tanks to go into hiding, for if Hitler had positioned his tanks correctly the invasion of D-Day could of ended up horrible and the fate of the war could of been completely altered.
